I never thought I'd say this but...

I miss Fort Leonard Wood!!!

Really i just miss our friends, but I miss the over all experience we had at FLW too.  I wish I would have appreciated it more while we were there.  Everyone in Jason's class (which was his unit while he was there) was the same rank and thus around the same age for the most part.  I understand now that it will never be like that again (except for maybe ILE, if we go that route) We had a huge pool of people with which to make friends and we took full advantage of  it.  We definitely made some of the life long friendships military spouses always talk about.  Here, well here is different.  This base is not like most, there aren't very many people here and due to this mission here, it's not a place where many soldiers come early in their carrer (I could probably have all the E1-E3 and O1-O2's on this base over to my house comfortably, I don't know many others bases where that would be the case).  Most of the soldier here have at least 10 years in the military, if not closer to 15 and more. When almost everyone you meet is at least 10 years older than you (and 90% have children), it makes building close relationships a little more difficult (not impossible).  We have definitely met some great people here, but we haven't found
our Mike & Kristi
our Matt & Ashley (and those kiddos, we love those kids!)
 our James and Rachel
 or Dave and Rachel

I haven't found these girls (yes, we were doing rounds of shots at 4 in the afternoon, so what!)
 or these girls

WE MISS OUR FLW FRIENDS!!!

  1. This post made me laugh at first! Then I got to reading it and I totally understand what you mean about missing a place because of the people you knew there!

  2. That's too funny. My husband HATED his 3 years at FLW. I lived there 8 and I had no issues with it. He now says he wishes he was still there, but only when he has to deal with BS.

  3. I agree! I wish I would have been able to slow the time down at Ft Benning. It was so nice to have a core group of 12 or so couples all your age, going through the same things, same phases of life (somewhat), and so on and so on. Here, being a young 20-something with no kids, I am definitely an outcast.

  4. I definately know what you mean!!! We've been missing it to but we were only about 3 hours from home. The only bad thing was how horrible our house was! I wouldn't even mind the driving 1 1/2 hours to buy anything not found at a Wal-Mart!!!! We're actually hoping to PCS there again! Are we crazy or what? But we definately miss the people!!! Too bad they have or will have all moved!

  6. I will probably feel the same way when we leave Drum...
It's kind of funny that you miss it so much...J did his training there and so I visited a few times. The thought of being stationed there scared me after one dinner at Aussie jacks.

  7. UGH! So many of these pictures remind me of myself! I hope I find some fun friends over in Italy like your group. In the SMALL place we will be, I am a LITTLE worried but I make the best of everything! I don't judge for the 4pm shots, I am the girl that would be right next to you! :)
