One of the first things that come to mind most when people think of San Diego is the zoo. Somehow it took us close to 6 months of living here to make it to the zoo for the 1st time. Considering we're huge zoo fans, I have no idea why it took us so long.
I was a little skeptical of this world renowned zoo since I grew up minutes from the zoo I consider to be one of the best in the world, the Cincinnati Zoo, the second oldest zoo in America. Luckily, I wasn't disappointed and I can confidently say that the San Diego Zoo lives up to it's name. Although the Cincinnati Zoo is still my favorite, the San Diego Zoo is a great place to spend a day in San Diego!
The new Koalafornia exhibit was nice (although nothing will ever compare to being in Australia).
The cheetah was beautiful. It came right up to the edge and my husband REALLY wanted to reach out and touch it but I somehow convinced him not to even try.
I've never been a huge fan of giraffes but the ones at the SD zoo were fun to watch.
This one wasn't a part of the zoo but I love humming birds and this flower, birds of paradise.
This guy did not appreciate me taking his photo.
There was a huge crowd taking photographs of the tiger. It took quite a while and a few elbow jabs to make my way up front and then I found this handsome fella gnawing on a piece of trash. Not as exciting as I had hoped.
Since the weather here is nice year round, the landscaping is constantly full of gorgeous blooms.
I can understand why it's on everyone's must do list while in San Diego.
We went last fall when the kids got in free. I was skeptical because I love the St. Louis zoo, which is also free. It was a nice zoo, but I don't think it was as great as it was hyped up to be and it was freaking expensive. I'm sure we'll go back, when it's free again.
ReplyDeleteI love the zoo and walking around Balboa Park. Have you been to the wild animal park? We did a behind the scenes tour there years ago. Was amazzzing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE zoos! The one here has been closed due to the bird flu so we haven't been able to go yet!
ReplyDeleteI visited the San Diego zoo a couple years ago and LOVED it! My husband and I are huge zoo fans. Gorgeous pictures :)
ReplyDeleteWere there elephants? I don't consider it a good zoo unless I see a fair share of elephants!
